Power supply and smartphone compatibility
Smart GO does not charge like a device with a built-in battery: it operates via an external power source connected to the USB-C LED cable. It can be powered by a smartphone compatible with USB On-The-Go technology or by a power bank approved and authorized by Dainese. The function time depends on the external power source used.
The function time of the Smart GO depends on the power source used. With the Dainese power bank, the Smart Go can operate for up to 72 hours. When used with an OTG-compatible smartphone, the autonomy depends on the smartphone's battery.
Smart GO is compatible with smartphones that support USB On-The-Go technology, which is required to provide power and communication to the device via a USB-C LED cable. The smartphone must also have GPS and Bluetooth enabled and working while in use. Before use, it is important to check if you have the latest version of the Dainese D-air® app installed.
If the battery of the smartphone used to power Smart GO drops below 10%, the Dainese D-air® App interface displays a low-battery warning message. Under these conditions, you must stop as soon as it is safe to do so and check the power source before continuing to use the device. Low-battery alerts from your smartphone follow its default settings.
Smart GO must be used exclusively with the battery boards associated with the device and authorized by Dainese. The use of unauthorized power banks or battery boards provides no guarantee as to the correct functioning of the system.
No. A smartphone is always required to use Smart GO: It must be connected via the Dainese D-air® App, with Bluetooth and GPS enabled. Even when Smart GO is powered by a battery board or a Dainese-approved power bank, the smartphone connection is still required.
Putting Smart GO on and compatibility with clothing
Smart GO can be worn over or under motorcycle or casual clothing, adjusting the configuration in accordance with the garment being worn, the fit desired by the user and whether or not they are carrying theSmart GO Backpack.
Before use, always make sure that the device is properly positioned, that the waist strap is adjusted and that the front fasteners are closed. The adjustable front sections must be used in accordance with the intended method of wear, in order to ensure the correct positioning of the device and the space necessary for the expansion of the airbag.
Smart GO can be worn over or under protective motorcycle gear or casual clothing, provided that the instructions for wearing, adjustment, and the space required for the airbag to deploy are respected. The front fasteners must always be closed and properly adjusted before use.
Smart GO can be used with protective clothing, including leather, but only if the configuration allows the device to be worn correctly, with the necessary space for the airbag to deploy. When using with protective clothing, keep the front sections unfolded and ensure there is at least 8 cm of space in the chest and back areas. If you have any questions regarding the suit's compatibility, please contact Dainese customer support.
Smart GO can be used with protective clothing, including leather garments, but only if the garment allows for proper positioning of the device, adjustment of the fastening systems, and proper deployment of the airbag.
When wearing protective gear, the front sections must be kept unfolded and at least 8 cm of space must be left in the chest and back areas to allow the airbag to deploy.
The system is designed exclusively for road use in Road mode: it is therefore not intended for racetrack use, whether for recreational or competitive purposes.
Smart GO can be worn over or under protective or casual clothing, following the recommended configurations.
When wearing protective clothing, the front sections must be kept unfolded. When worn over casual clothing, the front panels can be kept folded or unfolded, depending on how they are worn.
In all configurations, it is necessary to leave a space of at least 8 cm in the chest and back areas to allow the airbag to expand correctly. Smart GO should not be worn too tightly or compressed by incompatible clothing, accessories, or backpacks. The front fasteners must always be fastened and adjusted properly.
Smart GO does not offer a separate women's version: the device is one-size-fits-all and adjustable.
The fit is designed to accommodate different body types thanks to the adjustable waistband and customizable front panels. To ensure a proper fit, always make sure that Smart GO is properly positioned, fastened, and adjusted before use, following the configuration that best suits the garment you are wearing and your body type.
No, Smart GO is available in a one-size-fits-all, adjustable design. The fit can be adjusted using the adjustable waistband and the customizable front panels. To ensure proper use, check that the waist-to-shoulder measurement is between 45 and 49 cm.
To verify that Smart GO is compatible with your body type, you must refer to the waist-to-shoulder measurement, as there is no consistent relationship between this measurement and overall height.
The waist-to-shoulder measurement corresponds to the maximum vertical length, measured from the back, from the waistline to the point at which the shoulder meets the neck. To determine your waistline, stand upright and wrap a flexible measuring tape around your waist, placing it 50 mm above your hip bones.
Smart GO is suitable for a waist-to-shoulder measurement of between 45 and 49 cm. To check compatibility, please refer to the table below and the accompanying illustration.
Backpack and accessories
Smart GO can be used with the dedicated Smart GO Backpack, designed to integrate with the device via a special mounting system.
The use of backpacks not authorized by Dainese with the Smart GO has not been evaluated and cannot ensure the proper functioning of the airbag system.
Intended use and activation
Smart GO is designed for use on the road in Road mode on motorcycles and scooters. It is designed primarily for everyday use —urban travel, commuting between home and work, and trips outside the city—but it can also be used for road trips and on unpaved roads that are not excessively rough, traveled at low or moderate speeds.
Smart GO is not designed for use on the track, for amateur or competitive racing, nor for specialized off-road activities, such as motocross, enduro, super-enduro, or rally raid. It should not be used on very uneven, rough, or treacherous terrain.
It can be used on unpaved roads that are not excessively rough, when riding at low or moderate speeds, in accordance with the conditions specified for Road mode.
The system does not provide protection on four-wheeled vehicles such as quads or similar, on kick scooters or other urban micro-mobility vehicles, since the functionality for these vehicles has not been evaluated.
No. Smart GO is designed for use on motorcycles and scooters. The system does not provide protection when using four-wheeled vehicles, quads or similar, e-scooters, or urban micro-mobility vehicles. The system's functionality for these vehicles has not been evaluated.
Smart GO will arm when it detects vibrations from the vehicle or a speed exceeding 10 km/h.
If these conditions are not met, the system does not guarantee protection. On electric motorcycles, protection is not guaranteed at speeds below 10 km/h or when the vehicle is not vibrating.
No. Smart GO does not need be connected to a motorcycle or scooter. The system operates via the integrated electronic control unit, which features a 3-axis accelerometer and gyroscope located on the back, and via smartphone GPS.
Yes, Smart GO can also be used with electric motorcycles. However, protection is not guaranteed on electric motorcycles traveling at speeds below 10 km/h or when the vehicle is not vibrating.
Smart GO is not designed to remain operational while stationary. The system may arm in the event of vehicle vibrations, but does not guarantee protection for motorcycles that are turned off or for electric motorcycles traveling at speeds below 10 km/h.
To ensure proper operation, it is advisable to avoid conditions that could disarm the system while it is in use, such as the vehicle's Start&Stop mode.
When the system is armed, Smart GO is designed to activate in the accident scenarios anticipated for road use, including:
- collision with an obstacle;
- collision with another vehicle;
- high-side;
- low-side with rolling;
- low-side without rolling.
The activation time may vary depending on circumstances and the severity of the event. Smart GO is not designed to activate in response to minor events, such as minor wheelies or slight jolts to the handlebar.
Protection and certification
Smart GO protects the chest and back areas with an airbag. The device does not provide protection for areas not covered by the system.
During an impact, Smart GO also helps limit neck movement and possible head-to-neck angles, thereby reducing helmet movement.
Smart GO provides certified airbag protection for the chest and back in the intended activation scenarios. The use of additional passive protection, such as back protectors or protectors built into the garment, can help increase overall protection, especially in situations where the airbag system does not deploy or for areas not covered by Smart GO.
In any case, any additional protective gear must be compatible with the garment being worn and must not interfere with the proper positioning of Smart GO or the deployment of the airbag.
Smart GO is a Category II Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) device. The D-air® airbag system offers Level 2-certified protection for the chest and back.
After an activation
It depends on the condition of the device. After a fall or activation, Smart GO must not be reused until its integrity has been verified.
Check that the device has no breaks, tears, cuts, abrasions, or other visible damage, especially in areas where the airbag is located. Before resetting, it is necessary to perform an airbag integrity test to verify that it is not losing pressure. The test involves inflating the bag using a pump or compressor, using the special adapter provided with Smart GO.
If the device is intact and the integrity test is successful, Smart GO can be reset by replacing the CO₂ cartridge kit according to the instructions provided. If you have any questions, notice any defects, or see any visible damage, please contact Dainese Customer Service.
After each airbag deployment and before installing a new CO₂ cartridge kit, an airbag integrity test must be carried out.
The test involves using the adapter supplied with Smart GO, which must be screwed on in place of the CO₂ cartridge kit, and an inflation system, such as a pump or compressor, equipped with a pressure gauge. Following the procedure outlined in the Information Sheet, the bag is inflated to the specified pressure and checked after a few seconds to verify that it is maintaining the pressure correctly.
If the test is successful, Smart GO can be reset by installing a new original Dainese CO₂ cartridge kit. If you have any questions, notice any defects, or see any visible damage, please contact Dainese Customer Service.
After an activation, do not use Smart GO until the reset process is complete.
Check the condition of the device and the airbag carefully. Before installing a new CO2 cartridge kit, perform the integrity test by following the procedure outlined in the Information Sheet. If the device is in good condition, you can proceed with replacing the CO2 cartridge kit.
If you notice any damage, defects, or have concerns about the product's integrity, please contact Dainese Customer Service.
The Smart GO airbag is designed to provide up to three inflations, provided that the device, the airbag, and its components are intact.
After each activation, the device must be inspected, an integrity test must be performed, and the CO2 cartridge kit must be replaced. After the third activation, Smart GO can no longer be used and must be disposed of according to the instructions provided.
The deflation time can vary from between 30 and 45 seconds. Under certain conditions, the internal pressure of the airbag may take longer to decrease.
