DAINESE EXPEDITION MASTERS HIMALAYA EAST

10 days and 1,000 km on- and off-road at over 5,000 m, through the majestic Himalayan passes as they reopen after the long icy winter. We’ll ride through endless mountains to Tso Moriri, the largest lake in Ladakh, at 4,600 m. An adventure among the clouds that will leave us breathless, amid the most spectacular mountains of India and to the border with Tibet, climbing Umling La – the highest pass in the world at 5,882 m – through which, just a few months ago, only military vehicles were allowed to cross. We’ll visit ancient Buddhist monasteries and learn about an extraordinary people. All this on a motorcycle that’s environmentally friendly and respectful of these incredible natural surroundings – the Royal Enfield Himalayan.

Delhi-Leh

Early morning domestic flight to Leh (3,500 m) Transfer to hotel and day of relaxation. We spend the day visiting the capital of Ladakh, which offers splendid insights into the human nature of this strong people living in the mountains – real mountains, which can be harsh and unwelcoming for most of the year.

Leh-Leh

100km
Short tour to familiarize ourselves with the motorcycle and get used to the altitude (3,500 m). Visit to the Shey, Thiksey and Hemis monasteries. Return to Leh in the afternoon.

Leh - Khardung La Pass - Nubra

(150 km) - 5 hours
We leave Leh by taking the world's second highest carriageway, to reach the Khardung La pass. We’re at an impressive height of 5,380 m, with breathtaking views of the Karakorum mountain range. We then continue toward the Nubra Valley, with its Samstanling and Panamik monasteries, and the great thirty-meter-tall gilded Buddha.

Nubra - Pangong Lake

(186 km) - 5 hours
A breathtaking route is planned for today, on the road that runs along the Syok River and leads to the beautiful Pangong Lake, at an altitude of 4,225 m. The weather is changeable and it may snow, so good command of the vehicle is required, although the instructor will always be at hand. At night, temperatures can drop as low as 0 °C, but the climate is mitigated by the proximity to water, making for a very enjoyable pleasant dinner and overnight stay.

Pangong Lake – Hanle

(150 km) - 6 hours
We resume our journey by skirting Pangong Lake. As we get closer to China, we reach Hanle village, famous for its astronomical observatory and the impressive thousand-year-old Buddhist Gompa monastery. We’re at the foot of the Umling La pass, the highest carriageway in the world at an altitude of 5,882 m: An epic climb awaits us tomorrow.

Hanle - Umling La - Tso Moriri Lake

(160 km) - 7 hours
The day begins with a climb to the Umling La (5,882 m), an impervious pass on the Himalayan mountain range – on top of the world at over 5,800 m. The very scenic climb, winding road and rarefied air make this ride a real adventure. We descend to Tso Moriri Lake, a hidden gem surrounded by mountains reached by a twisting dirt road.

Tso Moriri - Leh

(220 km) - 7 hours
Most of the route runs along the bed of the Indus River and passes through truly fascinating scenery that alternates between remote valleys and mountain ridges with isolated monasteries peeking out among the peaks. Arrival to the Capital is scheduled for the afternoon, with some time to relax, dinner and overnight stay at a hotel.

Leh – Delhi

Transfer to the airport to catch the flight to New Delhi. Departure on an early morning Go Airlines flight to New Delhi, check-in at the hotel, lunch, some time to relax and visit to the city.
