It was a cloudy day, 19 years ago. A six-year-old girl was getting ready at the starting gate.
It was her first race and she wanted to have fun, but she also knew how far she wanted to go. Since she had put on her first pair of skis, Sofia Goggia always knew she wanted to become a great skier.
The race began and the girl managed to go from one gate to another easily, having fun for sure, but her goal was to win.
So, when she crossed the finish line, she went to her mother and for the first time asked the question that she still asks today after every race, “Did I win?”
Sofia stood on the top step of the podium for the first time, it was her first-ever victory, at which point this six-year-old girl became Italy’s rising star of skiing at the beginning of the third millennium.
