Joan Mir is the 2017 Moto3 World Champion!

Following a spectacular win in the red-flagged Australian GP, 20 year old Spanish sensation Joan Mir has been crowned 2017 Moto3 World Champion!

The Mallorca-born ace of the Leopard Moto team, rookie of the year in 2016, has clinched the title in Phillip Island capping off an absolutely dominating campaign, who saw him collecting 11 podium finishes in 16 races so far to secure the championship with 2 races to go.

Having switched from KTM to Honda machinery at the end of last year, Mir began the season scoring 2 consecutive wins in Qatar and Argentina and went on to take the top step of the podium also at Le Mans, Barcelona, Sachsenring, Brno and at the Red Bull Ring, where he won his maiden race in GP racing last year.

Aragon saw Mir back on top again to earn him the first chance at the title at the Twin Ring Motegi. Terrible weather conditions prevented him from clinching the crown in Japan, but at Phillip Island the fierce Spaniard took his 9th win of the season in style to triumph in the World Championshp and equal the all-time wins in the class.

After crossing the finish line in Australia, Mir stopped by his fans track-side to collect a special AGV Pista GP R helmet, featuring a special golden colour scheme celebrating his memorable triumph in the World Championship.

Next year Mir will complete the move to the Moto2 class where he’ll be competing under the banner of the Marc VDS Racing Team, and Dainese and AGV will be with him once again to take on this new challenge!

Well done Joan, we are proud of you!
