Dainese and AGV couldn’t miss this year’s Bonneville Speed Week at the legendary salt water lake that has served as stage over the years to record speeds on two wheels and uncountable attempts to beat them.
From August 12 to 18, Dainese and AGV were official partners of Born To Be Faster Sons, an initiative created through the coming together of Yamaha and the Italian broadcaster, Virgin Radio. This “mission” starred Alberto Cecotti, DJ Ringo and Giovanni di Pillo, three well-known personalities in the Virgin Radio universe who are passionate about both rock music and fast engines.
The trio tried to beat the speed record at Speed Week 2017 in the saddle of the three Yamaha models that make up the Faster Sons family: XSR900, XSR900 Abarth and a new “top secret” XSR900 Yard Built.
Dainese and AGV sponsored the three riders by providing complete head-to-toe outfits: AGV Pista GP R helmets, Laguna Seca D1 race suits, Full Metal D1 gloves and R Axial Pro In boots, all with personalized colors and decorations!
A true record breaker was legendary Burt Munro, who went a mind-blowing 183 mph on an Indian Scout in 1967, which put Bonneville on the map. Fifty years later, Lee Munro tried to repeat the accomplishment of his great-uncle and go 200 miles per hour with another Indian Scout and Dainese gear, but he got up to ’just’ 186.41 mph due to adverse weather conditions.
The excitement doesn’t stop there however: On August 27, Italian Fabio Fazi from the Pirelli team will once again attempt to beat the world record in the 50cc category, obviously with the support of Dainese and AGV!
We wish the best of luck to Fabio in the hopes that he breaks the world record!
