SANDRO CORTESE AND HIS FALL IN QATAR

4/7/2014

The German Moto2 rider Sandro Cortese badly injured his foot at the end of Saturday qualifying in Qatar during the first weekend of the 2014 World Championship Series. Cortese suffered an injury to the top of his foot and fractured his ankle bone with the probable cause being the footrest which sliced into the soft upper part of his boot like a knife.

His Dainese Axial Pro In boot effectively protected the back of his foot at the heel as can be seen in the photos.

Axial Pro In boots feature the D-Axial system in carbon fibre and aramid fibre and have steel inserts at the heels which were specifically designed to stop the ankles from twisting and to protect them in the event of a violent impact.

On the phone from his home in Mannheim, Cortese said: “The boot saved my career. If I hadn't been wearing D-Axial Pro In boots with their carbon fibre brace system and steel protection, I'd definitely have destroyed my heel and ankle. The same applies to my D-air® Racing Suit, the Dainese air-bag system. The fact that it deployed so quickly saved me from possible upper body fractures. Thanks to Dainese protection systems, I wasn't more seriously injured and all I missed was the Sunday warm-up session. Despite the accident, I lined up on the grid and came home seventh, my best result so far in Moto2.
