SVINDAL IS BACK!
10 December 2008 | News
The last World Ski Cup weekend in the USA was a great one for Dainese. Aksel Svindal performed something of a miracle by coming back and winning on the same slope where he’d suffered a serious injury and almost lost his life a year ago and was luckily saved thanks also to Dainese protection.
Svindal won the Downhill race right away on Friday’s first race in Beaver Creek in a fine display of mental discipline as he flew perfectly over the jump that had proved nearly fatal the year before. He won again on Saturday in Super G competition, literally dominating the race. Then he came back to the winners’ stand again on Sunday after finishing 3rd in the Giant Slalom race. In short, the weekend brought him 260 of the 300 World Cup points available. Following a performance of the kind, he’s obviously at the top of the overall standings. Next week the skiers do battle again in Val d'Isere, France.
As for the other Dainese athletes, the excellent 3rd place finish (second winners’ stand placing of the season) turned in by Maria Riesch in the Downhill race in Lake Louise (Canada) on Friday, December 5 was worthy of note, as is the the return of Davide Simoncelli among the world’s leaders with his 5th place finish in the Giant Slalom race just a few hundredths of a second behind Aksel Svindal.
