Aksel Lund Svindal, Dainese Team flag-bearer on snowy slopes around the world, brought this extraordinary season to an end in the best of all possible ways by winning the World Ski Cup.
The all-around Norwegian skier made a spectacular comeback that culminated by winning the coveted crystal ball thanks to the season’s final races in Are, Sweden.
After risking risked life and limb in a disastrous injury last season, Aksel had to work hard to regain his previous physical and mental form 100%, and this year’s results are the proof. In addition to winning the World Ski Cup title, Svindal also won the Super Giant Cup. At the 2009 World Ski Championship in Val d’Isere, he was crowned the World Super-combined race king and also took home a bronze medal in Super Giant competition.
Other Dainese Team members also has spectacular seasons, like German Maria Riesch, who finished second in the overall 2008-2009 World Ski Cup standings and won the 2008-2009 World Slalom Cup and as many as four World Ski Cup races. Maria also did well in the Val d’Isere 2009 World Ski Championship, where she won a slalom race.
Another Dainese athlete that had a very good year indeed was Werner Heel, who won two Super Giant races that brought him to a second-place finish in the discipline’s final standings just behind Dainese team-mate Aksel Lund Svindal.
