3/20/2013

Last weekend the World Ski Cup finished.

It was a good season for the Dainese skiers who obtained excellent results and visibility.

Maria Riesch had a satisfactory season even if not at the same level as 2 years ago and brought home two World Cup medals from Schladming, a sensational event followed very enthusiastically by tens of thousands of fans who always line the ski run. She added a gold medal in the super combined and a bronze in the downhill to her vast collection of finishes in the World Cup which include a win and four podium places.

Manfred Moelgg had a great season: a bronze in the giant slalom in the Alpine Skiing World Championship, two podiums in the World Cup and a fantastic final ranking (4th in GS and 5th in SL). He was also 7th in the overall standings even though he only took part in two disciplines.

Werner Heel is back on form. He too took 2 podiums in the World Cup. Final ranking: 4th in super giant and 10th in downhill.

Stefano Gross finished 12th in the ranking in the slalom, Florian Eisath was 22nd in the world in giant slalom and Cristian Deville was 25th in the slalom. The Canadians Jan Hudec and Manuel Osborne Paradis had a somewhat up and down season, but will definitely be in the hunt for medals at the next Olympics Osborne is now back to full fitness following a break of two years due to an injury.

Lastly we have the highly talented youngsters:
the surprise was Sofia Goggia who although she didn't take part in the World Cup due to commitments in the European Cup (2nd in the overall standings and 1st in downhill), was convened for the World Championships. She capitalised on the opportunity and came home 4th in the super giant and 7th in the combined event.

We will definitely hear her name more often in the future The same applies to Kilde Aleksander (Norwegian and winner of the European Cup overall title).

Roberto Nani is constantly improving and now lies among the top 30 in the world in both the slalom and giant slalom events.

We also have some other very interesting youngsters: Phil Brown (CAN), Benedikt Staubitzer (GER), Paolo Pangrazzi (ITA), Andrea Ballerin (ITA), Monika Huebner (GER).

All the skiers mentioned above are fully kitted out with: helmets, masks, protection and in some cases, gloves.
