An authentic battle was waged in Laguna Seca. What was perhaps the season’s hardest fought race was filled with fine passing and sudden surprises between the two contenders for the title: Valentino Rossi and Casey Stoner, the day’s two protagonists. The duel began right from the start when they both left the rest of the pack behind them and never let anyone else even come close as they passed each other repeatedly for the entire race. Eight laps from the end, the Australian ace made a mistake that brought him to the ground and Valentino first to the finish line.
After falling, Casey jumped right back into the saddle to successfully defend his chances for a
second-place finish against Chris Vermeulen who had to settle for third.
With 212 points and now at the top of the standings, Valentino is in seventh heaven after winning on the American track for the first time, even going so far as to claim that this was one of the best races in his career.
The day’s only bad news for the Dainese team was Jorge Lorenzo’s terrible fall that fractured his left foot’s middle toe
