ROCCA AND FANCHINI IN OLYMPIAN FORM

11 December 2005 | News

If a good beginning foreshadows a great finish, this year of the Olympic Games will surely offer no little satisfaction for Giorgio Rocca and Elena Fanchini. With just two months to go before the Turin 2006 Olympics, the two Dainese athletes respectively won the Special Slalom and the Straight Downhill races during the transfer of the "White Circus" to North America.
Elena Fanchini dominated the Straight Downhill race in Lake Louise, while Giorgio Rocca won the slalom in Beaver Creek with a lighting-quick time at sub-zero temperatures of -10°C.
Have these two athletes reached great shape too early? No, they're just in great shape and that's it.. They're in shape and full of confidence as the appointment that Italian athletes train all their lives for approaches. With two victories at night, Elena Fanchini and Giorgio Rocca offer new hope that lets us look forward to the Turin Games in February with a healthy dose of optimism.
Giorgio Rocca's victory on Sunday brings him to a total of 7 wins in World Ski Cup competition: "It's just too good to be true", says the Italian national ski team member from Livigno - "starting the World Cup slalom season off with a victory ….I still can't believe it's really happened…".
