LOREN - SHOW

21 October 2007 | News

By Antonello Caliendo, D-Club member

125cc: HUNGARIAN ACCELERATOR
The battle in the 125 cc Class continues. Just 10 points separate Valencia’s Hector Faubel from Gabor Talmacsi, the Hungarian who shows no mercy to anyone. After Pol Espargaro led the pack for a few laps, Gabor took control and left the rest behind: Pasini, Faubel, Corsi, Gadea, Koyama, Cortese, Pesek and Espargaro. By the time Faubel realized what had happened, it was already too late, and at the end he even got passed by Koyama but still made the 3rd step on the winners’ stand. The Spaniard will now either have to do it or die in his hometown where thousands will be cheering him on in Valencia. Those who didn’t make the winners’ stand included Olive, Gadea, Pesek, Corsi, Pasini, Smith and Masbou. Pasini was forced to slow down near the end, as was Corsi due to tire problems. As De Rosa fell for the umpteenth time, the other Italians came in as follows: Bianco 16th, Zanetti 19th , and then Giorgi and Lamborghini.
Today’s standings: Talmacsi 262, Faubel 252, Koyama 186, Pesek 171, Corsi 164, and Pasini 161. See you next at the "Plaza de toros"!

250cc: MADE IN JAPAN
Now it’s official! Jorge is Lorenzo became the World Champ in the 250 cc Division for the second straight year. He didn’t win the race, but his winners’ stand placing was more than enough.
Dovizioso had the chance to win but unfortunately fell near the end.
At the start of the race, he headed for the lead together with the two KTM and Lorenzo behind, and after only four laps vaunted a 2 second lead while Lorenzo was locked in a battle with Bautista, Luthi, Kallio, and Aoyama. At the 7th lap, Bautista had to pull out of the race and say goodbye to a highly-deserved third-place finish in the final standings. Halfway through the race, De Angelis fell as well, but with the consolation of grabbing the 3rd place final finish vacated by Bautista.
When Dovizioso saw that Lorenzo was wobbling and having tire problems near the end, he tried to make a break for it, but the KTMs were ready and waiting. At a certain point, Kallio came out of an explosive straightaway too fast and bumped Dovizioso, who fell to the ground, putting Aoyama in first place to win the race followed by Barbera, with Lorenzo now third and champion of the world, and then Kallio, Luth, Simon, Locatelli and Simoncelli.
Dovizioso ended the race in 11th position thanks to a courageous restarting after saying goodbye to his hopes for glory. Baldolini finished 14th and Lai came in 20th, while Sandi pulled out of the race.
Lorenzo wore a robe and boxing gloves to celebrate his victory as if in homage to the great IRON MIKE. At the moment, Jorge has “only” 9 wins, which might rise to 10 at the next race in Valencia and represent an inviting calling card for his entry in MotoGP heavyweight class society.
One dominator who will probably become team-member with another. Then the sparks are sure to fly!

MotoGP: STONER UBER ALLES
Casey Stoner instead has already won his 10 victories. As usual, the new World Champion got off to a good start and finished even better.
A good performance was also turned in by Marco Melandri, who finished 2nd after beating Dani Pedrosa in an exciting duel. Valentino Rossi finished only 5th behind De Puniet astride a Kawasaki in fine form. This was rather a colorless race without any passing or dueling, even if he must be congratulated for coming back from a 10th place starting position. Elias battled for a long time with Hayden before succumbing, while the Suzukis fought it out amongst each other. Aoki had a good race on a (Suzuki) 2008 prototype.
With the MotoGP outcome out of the question, the biggest topic of dispute is now tires and which ones Valentino Rossi will use next year: the bets are open! Capirossi, perhaps a little tired after his Australian exploit, came in 11th, followed by another “old-timer”, Barros, astride a Ducati that was far from the official racing model.
The only winner in all this was Ducati who saw its two racers step up to the highest steps on the winners’ stand… Oops! I forgot…......... one was wearing a costume!
