The 2013 world season started in Qatar in an unusual context for Motocross: the first evening race in history, in a very beautiful plant and on a track in perfect conditions for this first round.
The event was composed of a MX2 heat and a MX1 heat and finally a Superfinal with the best 20 riders of each class.
Ivo Monticelli wasn’t at his top form all weekend long. In the Qualifying Practices, Ivo didn’t find immediately the feeling with the track and in the Qualifying Race he had to be content with finishing 23rd.
Shaun Simpson, who’s always improving, obtained a good Qualifying Race showing to be able to keep the leaders’ rhythm and finishing 11th.
In the MX2 race, Ivo Monticelli wasn’t able to start well and he tried to catch up positions but the young rider of Ricci Racing aimed at gaining the qualification for the final race and Ivo was very close to succeed in finishing 19th. Unfortunately, in the last chance Monticelli crashed, losing the possibility of the qualification.
In MX1, Shaun Simpson showed to be aggressive and fast after a great start. He was in the leading group and with a clever strategy he finished his race in overall 8th place. A great result for the Scottish rider who showed still once his excellent qualities and those of his TM 450.
In the Superfinal, Simpson didn’t reply the good start of his first manche and he caught up positions finishing 17th on a track where it was very difficult to pass. Ricci Racing Team can now enjoy just some days of break and then ready for the second GP of the season in Thailand.
