Thanks to the protective technology in the Dainese racing suit and solidity of the knee-foot structure in particular, the nasty spill suffered by Daniel Pedrosa during the Malaysia Grand Prix time trials did not have more serious consequences.
The young Spanish racer's slide over the asphalt at nearly 200 kilometers per hour only left him with a bad scrape and the need for 4 stitches, nothing that could stop him from claiming 3rd place for a result that still keeps him in the running for the title just 22 points behind stable-mate Nicky Hayden.
The suit's special knee protection is the fruit of exhaustive study by D-Tec®, the Dainese Research & Development Department. The particular constructive technique based on an exclusive thermoforming process permits the integration of a composite homologated protection and a thermoformed Techno® insert together with another insert in anti-grip Titanium. This is completed by the patented union system between the leg of the suit and the Axial Race IN boot that kept the Dainese rider's leg from twisting.

Thanks to all the above, the Malaysia GP race turned out to provide an excellent opportunity for promotion for motorcycle racing fans around the world. The only question that remains unanswered is the role that the track's curbs (used for Formula 1 racing and inappropriate to two-wheeled competition) might have played in Dani Pedrosa's close call.
