Two incredible heats in Donington, England, on Sunday, April 1, brought Max Biaggi to the No. 2 position in the World SuperBike Standings, just five points behind the leader, Toseland.
The race started off with Troy Bayliss in fine form and initially out in front in the first race before a nasty spill knocked him out of competition. At that point, Toseland took the lead to the finish line as Corser and Biaggi claimed the other positions on the winners’ stand. This good performance by Biaggi gave him results that overturned the verdict of the qualification round, where technical problems had stopped him from doing his best on the track.
The second heat in Donington was all the Roman racer’s own. After Toseland left the field due to mechanical problems, Max put on a show in a breath-taking battle with Yamahas ridden by Corser and Haga. The race went down to the wire and the very final curve, where Max swerved wide and the Japanese racer succeeded in slipping past him on the inside to claim the win.
