ASSEN HOLLAND - JOYS AND TEARS

27 June 2006 | News

Last Saturday's MotoGP Race in Assen brought no luck to Valentino Rossi, who injured both his right wrist and left ankle during Thursday's trials.
Although the Tavullia champ had to fight against the pain and start from the last position on the grid in the following race, he ended up finishing 8th and picking up precious points that might prove decisive in his season's final score.
The Dainese team had more reason to celebrate the 3rd place finish in the MotoGP race claimed by Daniel Pedrosa, who now stands 2nd in the World Championship standings, and the victory by a simply fantastic Jorge Lorenzo in 250 cc competition. The Spanish racer dominated the pack right from the pre-race time trials to first win the pole position and then ride with good racing savvy right down to the finish line in a race that was never really in doubt.

The next stop on the MotoGP circuit is Donington, England, where Valentino feels at home and may well prove capable of coming up with yet another miracle that will re-spark the battle for this season's title now firmly in the hands of Nicky Hayden.

On the D-Challenge, front, the total standings surprisingly show last year's winner Maldeicombo once again in the lead. Is he going to claim the title for the second straight year?
Not if you can help it!
