A great day on the Sachsenring: Valentino wins his 101st race, Jorge battles to the final curve, and Dani and Casey stay right behind the two Yamahas. All four are contenders for the world title. It’s been a while since we’ve seen such a tightly-knit group at the top of a MotoGP race!
Rossi works his miracle the first time he eased up on the throttle on the last lap after slanting in sharply from the outside as if he were closing a door. Lorenzo thinks Val has to take this curve a bit slower so he stays on the outside to take advantage. But then Val suddenly opens the gas to the max and Jorge cannot get back in and is obliged to eat more road. Magnificent. Like two chess players. But the thirty year old is still the craftier of the two. Even if the Spaniard is getting savvy in a hurry, never quits, and wakes up every Sunday convinced he’s going to beat The Doctor. And he’s the only one who’s this positive and motivated today: for different reasons, Stoner and Pedrosa are both behind him.
Up on the podium, Dani looks like he’s having a good time, but victory for him is an isolated in incident and he fails to encore his Laguna Seca win.  Perhaps he’s a little confused by rumours from the market. Australian Casey is still not in perfect shape; his medical team hasn’t succeeded in pinpointing the problem and he seems drained of energy at the end of every race. Is the terrible terminator ever going to come back? Ducati fans keep waiting for the day.
Germany also showed us an excellent De Angelis, who came in 5th on a track he loves. Melandri also rode well, and came in 7th. For the record, this 159th podium brings Valentino to a tie with Giacomo Agostini.
Marco Simoncelli claimed a beautiful victory in 250 cc competition, his second of the season after Le Mans. Returning to success was important, as was reducing the gap between him and the top of the standings. This was a beautiful GP race for Marco because first he was able break out of the ranks with Debon, then he was able to send him packing, and finally he was able to stave off attacks from Bautista and Aoyama. Worn-out tires slowed him down at the end, but now he’s only 32 points behind the leader and he can still win the title with a little luck. It would be great if he could win the 250 cc title again before moving up to the heavyweight class. We’ll all be rooting for him.

ROSSI AL SACHS GIOCA A SCACCHI

Grande giornata al Sachsenring: Valentino fa 101, Jorge lo contrasta bene fino all’ultima curva,  Dani e Casey restano vicini alle due Yamaha. Tutti e quattro i protagonisti del mondiale.  Era da un po’ che non si vedeva un gruppetto così nutrito al comando di una GP!
Rossi compie il capolavoro alla prima staccata dell’ultimo giro: taglia la pista verso l’interno come per chiudere la porta, Lorenzo ne deduce che girerà un po’ più lento e quindi resta esterno per approfittarne; allora Vale forza al massimo la staccata, Jorge non può rientrare ed  è costretto a far più strada. Magnifico. Come due giocatori di scacchi. Ma il trentenne è ancora il più abile. Anche se lo spagnolo cresce in fretta, non si dà mai per vinto, e parte ogni domenica con la convinzione di poter battere il Dottore. Ed è l’unico, oggi, così positivo e motivato: Stoner e Pedrosa, per diversi motivi, sono indietro.
Dani, sul podio, è in un buon momento, ma per lui la vittoria resta un fatto episodico. Al successo di Laguna non fa seguire l’impresa. E magari le voci di mercato lo disturbano un po’. L’australiano è giù di corda, le analisi cliniche non sembrano aver rilevato qualche guaio particolare, ma finisce le corse svuotato di ogni energia. Tornerà lo spaventoso terminator di una volta? I ducatisti ne hanno  nostalgia e anche bisogno.
In Germania abbiamo visto anche un ottimo De Angelis, quinto su un tracciato che ama. Però anche Melandri ha corso molto bene, cogliendo un buonissimo settimo posto. Per inciso, con questo 159° podio, Valentino ha eguagliato Giacomo Agostini.
In 250 bellissima vittoria di Marco Simoncelli, la seconda della stagione dopo quella di Le Mans. Tornare al successo era importante, ridurre lo svantaggio in classifica pure. Ed è stato, il suo, un bellissimo GP perché prima è riuscito a fuggire con Debon, poi lo ha messo dietro con decisione, infine ha saputo resistere al ritorno di Bautista e Aoyama. Le gomme finite lo hanno rallentato nel finale, ma adesso il suo ritardo dal leader è ridotto a 32 punti. Può farcela. Bello bissare il suo titolo prima di passare nella MotoGP. E noi tifiamo tutti per lui.

Se Dani Pedrosa riuscirà a vincere anche al Sachsenring,  circuito che ama, la HRC che farà? Seguiterà a corteggiare Lorenzo come si vocifera? 23 Pistina, neanche quattro chilometri,  molti la odiano, il meteo è incerto e Valentino è favorito.
Ma possono farcela anche loro: Casey e Jorge .
