Paul Basagoitia

« I took a step back and thought about where a mountain bike should be: in the mountains. I love spending time up in Utah in the natural terrain. »

Back in 2004, Paul Basagoitia – then a seventeen-year-old “nobody kid” from Minden, Nevada – entered the slopestyle contest at the first ever Crankworx mountain bike competition in Whistler, Canada, on a borrowed bike. He won. It’s a moment that will go down in mountain biking history and established Basagoitia as a rider to be reckoned with. Since then Basagoitia has wowed judges and spectators at competitions like the Red Bull District Ride and the Red Bull Rampage, but now he’s trying to get back to the core of his sport, the backcountry free-riding.
