Una domenica nera per Valentino. Una giornata meravigliosa per Jorge. Era vero: la pista di Le Mans è adatta alle Yamaha, ma questa volta ne approfitta soltanto Lorenzo, è andato subito in fuga e non ha più visto nessuno.
Pista bagnata la domenica, gomme rain che non faranno di certo tutta la gara, nessuna idea sul setting dopo le prove sull’asciutto. Rossi non sembra messo male ma qualcosa va storto fin dai primi chilometri: è secondo, ma fatica a tener dietro gli altri e perde contatto con il compagno di marca. Ha forse anticipato il rientro per ripartire con le slick? Forse sì, minimo due o tre giri, e al rientro cade subito in una curva bagnata. Tra una cosa e l’altra, riuscirà a passare nel box tre volte ancora: due per cambio-moto, una per pagare un eccesso di velocità nella corsia di uscita. Sedicesimo, caparbio, pensa che magari qualcuno si fermerà e ci scapperà un punticino, ma nessuno lo accontenta.
Dieci e lode a Lorenzo che chiude senza la minima sbavatura, secondo successo su quattro gare, gran bella media. Lui ha subito riscattato la caduta di quindici giorni prima a Jerez. Ma dieci anche a Marco Melandri che capitalizza con un meraviglioso secondo posto le necessità del giorno, le tre C: classe, caparbietà. E culo. Perché ci vuole anche quello, in una giornata così.
Poi Pedrosa che strappa gli applausi con la sua rimonta finale sull’ottimo Dovizioso, quinto un concreto Stoner che limita i danni: aveva un assetto completamente sbagliato per il bagnato, ma non si è fatto prendere dall’ansia.
Adesso la classifica è cortissima: Lorenzo in vetta, Rossi e Stoner affiancati a una sola lunghezza, Pedrosa appena più indietro, a nove punti. Ottimo per lo spettacolo.
E finalmente viva Marco Simoncelli che torna alla vittoria in duemmezzo. Adesso è molto più vicino a Bautista che ha chiuso quarto. Due Gilera sul podio, con Locatelli terzo; ma Super-sic ha fatto gara a sé, tostissimo sull’asfalto viscido, capace di un controllo super della moto e della gara. Ora tutto è possibile, per il nostro capellone. Anche accordarsi con la Ducati per il prossimo anno, come è venuto fuori nello scherzo del dopo-gara. Si accontenterebbe, Marco, di dodici milioni di euro. Livio Suppo ha preso tempo.

NICO CEREGHINI: SLIPPERY TRACK IN LE MANS, LORENZO GIVES AN ENCORE

Bad Sunday for Valentino. Excellent day for Jorge. True; the Le Mans track is better suited to a Yamaha, but this time only Lorenzo takes advantage by jumping out into the lead right and staying there.
Wet track on Sunday, rain tires that certainly won’t go the distance. Nobody has any ideas about the new setting after practicing on dry asphalt. Rossi doesn’t look too bad but something goes wrong right away: he’s only second, has problems keeping the others off his tail, and loses contact with his stable-mate. Did he come in to the box a bit too early in order to change to slick tires? Maybe so, at least two or three laps too early, and when he was back on track he fell right away on a slippery curve. For one reason or another, he went back to the box even three more times: twice to change bikes, once to pay off a penalty for going too fast in the exit lane. Sixteenth place but stubborn, he thinks maybe someone will drop out and he’ll snag a point or two. But no one’s willing to help.
Top marks and honors to Jorge Lorenzo for bringing the race to a close without the minimum error and scoring his second win in four races, not bad for an average. That’s a good way to make up for his spill fifteen days before in Jerez. Top marks also go to Marco Melandri who parleyed the day’s conditions into a marvelous second-place finish. Those conditions spelt with a C are: class, constancy, and colossal luck. Because you also needed that on Sunday.
Then Pedrosa wins the applause as he finally battled past and excellent Dovizioso; Casey Stoner limited his damages as best he could with a 5th place finish: his setting was all wrong for a wet track, but at least he didn’t panic.
The standings now are very short indeed: Lorenzo’s at the top, Rossi and Stoner paired at just one length away; Pedrosa’s just a little further behind – nine points. A great situation for the show.
Marco Simoncelli finally gets back on the winning track in 250 competition. Now he’s even closer behind Bautista, who finished 4th. Two Gileras on the podium, with Locatelli coming in third, but Super-sic made the race his own, tougher than ever on the slippery asphalt with super control of his bike and the race. Anything’s possible now for our long-haired rider. Even striking a deal with Ducati for next year, as was suggested by the post-race joking. Marco wouldn’t mind twelve million Euros. Livio Suppo took his time.

Sulla pista che esalta le Yamaha (in tre sul podio 2008), Rossi e Lorenzo fanno impressione. Pedrosa, unico nel poker di vertice a non avere ancora vinto, preme.  Jorge vuole cancellare la caduta di Jerez… Le previsioni dicono battaglia. E Simoncelli suona la carica in duemmezzo!

NICO CEREGHINI: LE MANS FAVORS YAMAHA

On a perfect track for Yamaha (three claimed the podium in 2008), Rossi and Lorenzo look unbeatable. Pedrosa, the only one in the top 4 that has not yet won a race, is burning with revenge. Jorge wants to make everyone forget about his fall in Jerez. The forecast is for heavy battle, while Marco Simoncelli is blowing “Charge!” on his trumpet in the 250 cc class!
