Dainese back at the top with Danny Hart UCI MTB Downhill World Champion

Double podium for Dainese athletes Danny Hart and Laurie Greenland

Vicenza, Italy. September 14th – The UCI Mountainbike season finished off last weekend with the glorious win of British racer Danny Hart and Vice-World Champion and fellow-Brit Laurie Greenland. MS Mondraker Team being sponsored for the first season by Italian protection manufacturer Dainese was already dominating the second half of the UCI World Cup season with Danny Hart taking the wins in the last three World Cup stops in Lenzerheide (SUI), Mount St. Anne (CAN) and Vallnord (AND).  „Last year we decided to sign a two year contract with the MS Mondraker Team. By looking at last year’s results you can see that Danny had a dramatic constant improving curve. Laurie’s first Elite season proved that he is one to watch in the future. It is a great cooperation with mutual trust and we are of course proud having our products worn by both, world champion and vice world champion. Congratulations to Danny and Laurie“, said Marco Pastore, Racing Manager from Dainese.

Being at the peak of his game Hart won with almost 3 a seconds advance on the technically demanding track in Val di Sole (ITA), crowding out his teammate Laurie Greenland from the hot-seat. The later just had pulled out the race of his lifetime. In the end he finished off second, more than 2 seconds ahead of third placed Florent Payet from France. Young-gun Laurie couldn’t quite believe the overwhelming success of his first season riding in the Man Elite class: „It is just incredible being in the Top 20 of the World Cup ranking and on top coming home from Val di Sole as Vice World Champion. I’m really looking forward to attacking hard next season“, Greenland commented.  With two Top Ten results (8th in Fort William (GBR) and 9th in Vallnord) the 19 year old new comer ended up place 18 in the UCI World CUP ranking and surprised the mountain bike community with his Val di Sole run.

For Dainese, Hart’s triumph is the first world championship title since 2002, when Frenchman Nicolas Vouilloz retired after claiming his 10th world champion title. The MS Mondraker team equipped with Dainese’s protection gear, is glad having a season without bigger injuries, as team manager Markus Stöckl (AUT) points out: „For having a successful downhill season, there are a lot of factors that need to come together. One of them is course not being injured. Knowing that we are protected by one of the most experienced manufacturers in protection wear on the market, gives our riders the confidence that is essential for racing over technical demanding courses throughout the whole season.“
