The San Marino MotoGP race in Misano begins with Stoner first winning the pole position and then leaving everyone in the dust at the starting gate. But as his helmet implies, this is Valentino’s home turf, and he’s not about to be intimidated by Casey’s breakaway, and just as soon as Val blows by Dani Pedrosa he gets right on Stoner’s heels. At the seventh lap, Vale is still 3 seconds behind when Stoner slips and falls for the third straight race and ends up on the gravel. The Doctor suddenly finds himself alone again all the way to the finish line, where a swarm of fans – local friends and VIPS well - is ready and waiting to celebrate. This win on home ground is twice as nice for Rossi because it’s his 68th victory in the category and brings him into a tie with record-man Agostino. Up on the winners’ platform, Val is flanked by another Dainese flag-bearer, stable-mate Jorge Lorenzo who came in 2nd in a fine race ahead of Elias and was happy once again after a series of recent spills.
There are still 5 races left to run in the MotoGP season. Valentino is in an excellent position in the standings with a 75 point lead over Casy Stoner. The next race will be in Indianapolis in two weeks.
