Non ci volevano andare, a Motegi, e la Honda ha usato il braccio di ferro per dimostrare al mondo che la vita, in Giappone, è tornata alla normalità; che il terremoto e l’incidente nucleare non hanno fermato il popolo giapponese. Di normale, alla fine, c’è stata soltanto la supremazia della maggior casa motociclistica nipponica: la Honda è tornata a fare la Honda e tanti saluti alla compagnia, se non è Stoner è Pedrosa, vince sempre uno dei due. E pensare che pareva la volta buona per Andrea Dovizioso, che nella prima fase di gara andava come il vento; poi la penalizzazione lo ha piegato, e anche Supersic lo ha passato in tromba nel finale. Ma ancora una volta i due galletti italiani hanno mostrato le unghie e la classe dei campioni, e adesso sanno che Honda ha promosso Marco e bocciato invece Andrea, che forse proverà a passare alla Yamaha con il team Tech 3 di Poncharal.

Certo che la Ducati è uscita da Motegi con le ossa rotte: Rossi a terra subito, Berbera dopo un po’, Capirossi neanche si è presentato per i postumi del volo precedente e Hayden ha sbagliato quasi tutto. La Desmosedici arranca, privata o ufficiale che sia, e l’unica nota positiva in un quadro così fosco è stato l’warm-up della domenica mattina, con Vale quarto a sei decimi dal più rapido. E’ vero progresso? Pare che il semitelaio d’alluminio qualcosa in più sia capace di darlo, ma per capirne un po’ dio più occorre attendere i telaio vero e completo. A Bologna si lavora duro, e questi sono i mesi che chiariranno un po’ di cose.

Il titolo 2011 è mani nelle mani di Casey Stoner: il suo vantaggio su Jorge, dopo il terzo posto di Motegi, resta di 40 punti e sono tantissimi. A questo punto c’è la convinzione che l’australiano si laureerà proprio sulla pista di casa, a Phillip Island tra quindici giorni. E sarebbe una festa paragonabile a quella del 2007 quando, già conquistato il suo primo titolo, il pilota che allora faceva volare la Desmosedici trionfò in una gara bellissima e simbolica. In Patria Casey ritroverà Adriana, che i Giappone non è voluta andare.

E bravo Iannone che vince in Moto2 (dove Bradl perde il suo primato per un punto), e allora bravo anche il francese Zarco che finalmente centra il successo in 125 e tiene ancora aperte le danze anche nella minima cilindrata.

What a race! Valentino falls on the first lap, Dovizioso and Simoncelli jump the start and are punished with a ride-through penalty, Stoner loses his brakes at the height of the action. The leader board changes constantly until Dani Pedrosa puts an end to discussion and seals his third win of 2011. Three wins for him, against Stoner's eight and Lorenzo's three. And poor Lorenzo was beaten up by the super Honda even would he could have taken advantage of Casey's ending up in the gravel.

He didn't even want to go to Motegi but Honda used the strong-arm technique to show the world that life in Japan has returned to normal, that the earthquake and the nuclear accident have not stopped the Japanese people. Normal, at the end, was only the supremacy of the largest producer of Japanese motorcycles: Honda has returned to making Hondas, and to their credit, if it isn't Stoner who wins, it's Pedrosa. And to think that it seemed the time had come for Andrea Dovizioso, who in the first phase of the race rode like the wind, then the penalty set him back and even SuperSic passed him easily at the end. But once again the two Italian lions extracted their claws and the stuff of champions, and now they know that Honda has promoted Marco and flunked Andrea, who will perhaps try to pass over to the Yamaha Tech3 team of Poncharal.

Without a doubt Ducati finished Motegi with its bones broken: Rossi on the ground immediately, Berbera a short time later, Capirossi was not even there in the aftermath of his previous flight and Hayden got just about everything wrong. The Desmosedici limps, whether it's private or official, and the only positive note in such a bleak picture was the Sunday morning warm-up, with Vale fourth, six-tenths off the fastest. Is that real progress? It would appear that the aluminium sub-frame does help somewhat, but to understand a little more we'll have to wait and see the finished complete frame. In Bologna they're working hard, and these are the months in which things will be cleared up.

The 2011 title is walking hand in hand now with Casey Stoner: his lead over Jorge, 40 points after the third place at Motegi, is huge. At this point there are those who are convinced the Australian will win it all on his home track at Phillip Island in a fortnight. It would be a party comparable to that of 2007 when, having already won his first title, the pilot who then was literally flying the Desmosedici triumphed in a race that was both beautiful and symbolic. Adriana, who didn't want to go to Japan, will be there at home.

And "bravo" to Iannone who wins in Moto2 (where Bradl loses his first place position by a point), and "bravo" also to the Frenchman Zarco who finally gets top prize in the 125cc race and keeps the championship open also in the lower cylinder category.

CHE SHOW A MOTEGI: DUE GRANDI!

Jorge contro Valentino, per la prima volta vicinissimi nel finale di una corsa. Era quello che tutti sognavano, i due fenomeni sono stati meravigliosi, due giri da antologia, e allora cosa sono quei musi lunghi? Anche lo stesso Lorenzo: non era lui quello che si augurava un testa a testa con Vale prima della fine dell’anno? Non condivido affatto la prospettiva dei vertici Yamaha: Lorenzo il titolo lo ha già vinto, se non gli andava di giocare allora evitava di sfidare un Vale in gran forma. Alla televisione è stato uno show di quelli che restano nella memoria e meglio rappresentano il nostro amato sport.
Rossi non è (e non è stato mai) scorretto. Nessuno del resto lo ha affermato, nemmeno Jarvis che pure, dopo aver ascoltato le proteste del maiorchino, ha invitato Furusawa a rimproverare il 46. Tra compagni queste cose non si fanno, è stata la tesi. Ma quali cose? Se scorrettezza non c’è stata, allora dobbiamo parlare di confronto acceso, magari anche duro, ma sportivo.
“Jorge –ha dichiarato Vale- ha voluto passarmi a tutti i costi nelle prime curve. E io, che avevo il passo per provare a vincere, ho perso il treno dei primi a causa sua. Il finale per me è stato magnifico, lui voleva salire sul podio ma lo volevo anch’io. Entrambi siamo stati bravi e il terzo sono io. Sarebbe stato meglio lottare per la vittoria, ma va bene così”.
“Troppo duro –ribatte Jorge- non dico che è stato un Valentino scorretto, ma certo troppo aggressivo. A queste velocità può diventare pericoloso”.
Io credo che Jorge avrebbe fatto meglio a ridersela e a promettere la rivincita per la prossima occasione. Vedremo a Sepang se la faccenda è stata digerita da tutti i protagonisti, ma ha ragione il Lucchinelli del dopo-gara: in Yamaha serve una figura che gestisca al meglio la fase finale della meravigliosa avventura con Valentino Rossi. Lo meritano tutti: piloti, tecnici, manager, e lo merita soprattutto la storia della moto.
La domenica bestiale è stata dominata da uno strepitoso Casey Stoner, che dopo prove tormentate ha trovato una Ducati impeccabile. Spiace per Dovizioso, che nella sua miglior giornata incappa nel miglior Stoner; ma il forlivese, scattato dalla pole e sempre in caccia del leader, ha confermato di valere moto e trattamento ufficiale per il 2011. Curioso: fermo Pedrosa per l’incidente nel primo turno di prove, Andrea ha fatto click nel cervello e ha guidato come Dani…
E infine un grande applauso anche a Supersic. Marco ha guidato forte tutto il fine settimana, è in netta crescita, aveva una percorrenza di curva che faceva paura anche a Edwards. Peccato il finale un po’ fiacco, ma il sesto posto conquistato così è un bellissimo risultato.

Sunday, the first race in Far east: Motegi, Japan. Last year, in April, Lorenzo won on Rossi. Valentino needs to test his shoulder conditions, Jorge needs to test Yamaha with a more powerful engine. But are Pedrosa and Stoner still in their best shape?

Domenica, la prima d’Oriente: Motegi, Giappone. L’anno scorso, ad aprile, vinse Lorenzo su Rossi. Valentino vuole verificare la condizione della spalla, Jorge la forma della Yamaha che avrà un motore più potente. Pedrosa e Stoner, però, sono ancora i più in forma di tutti?
