Che bello al San Marino di Misano Adriatico rivedere Valentino lì davanti! Sulla pista intitolata all’amico SuperSic, Rossi ha fatto la più bella corsa del suo biennio in Ducati. E aspettando che di belle imprese ne arrivino ancora molte altre prima che termini la stagione, tutti i suoi tifosi e quelli della Ducati si sono trovati finalmente a festeggiare insieme. Gran gara: partito benissimo dalla seconda fila, subito secondo, dietro al dominatore Lorenzo ma davanti a Bradl e a tutti gli altri, Vale non ha mollato ed ha guidato con precisione chirurgica la Desmosedici, quella che gli dava confidenza con il nuovo telaio. L’occasione era ghiotta – la pista amica, i test fatti la settimana prima, Pedrosa subito fuori tamponato da Barbera - e il nove volte campione del mondo l’ha sfruttata alla grande. Forse il vantaggio di una messa a punto più centrata degli altri (che hanno trovato tre turni bagnati su quattro) era notevole, e la Ducati reale non è al 100 per 100 questa; ma intanto festeggiamo il bellissimo secondo posto che conferma due cose: la Ducati procede sulla strada giusta e Valentino è il Rossi di sempre. Qualcuno dice “che peccato mollare proprio adesso”, ma Vale risponde sicuro “ho fatto la scelta giusta per me e se l’anno venturo la Ducati andrà bene ne sarò contento anch’io”.

Dedicata a Marco Simoncelli, ricordato a Misano in tutti i modi e con il calore di sempre. Ed è una corsa, quella di Rossi, che vale una vittoria. Lorenzo non era nemmeno tanto lontano, poco più di quattro secondi al traguardo, mentre chi spingeva alle spalle della Ducati ha perso terreno invece di guadagnarne: Bautista ha battuto in volata Dovizioso e Spies ha preceduto Bradl che ha un solo limite, quello di non riuscire a gestire bene le gomme quando calano; ma il rookie tedesco ha convinto anche a Misano: veloce, consistente, ambizioso. Hayden settimo, nonostante tutti gli acciacchi della caduta di Indy, Pirro decimo, Petrucci quattordicesimo e Pasini purtroppo caduto ancora.

Ha fatto sognare pure Iannone in Moto2, a lungo in testa con decisione e classe dopo aver stabilito la pole del sabato; ma poi Andrea è calato per colpa della gomma anteriore che è ruotata sul cerchio: le vibrazioni lo hanno costretto a cedere al solito Marquez e al bravissimo Pol Espargarò che fino all’ultimo ha provato di tutto per vincere. E’ stata una bellissima battaglia in Moto2, spettacolare e leale, tra due spagnoli e con tre sorpassi nell’ultimo giro. Ma forse ancora più bella, in tutta la sua durata, è apparsa la Moto3 con Romano Fenati quasi sempre al comando del plotone, nel quale figurava anche Antonelli. Nel finale l’ascolano è stato ripreso e passato, era quinto all’inizio dell’ultimo giro; poi Folger ha danneggiato Vinalles all’ultima curva, Romano è stato bravissimo, e il terzo gradino del podio resta una bella soddisfazione. A vincere è stato ancora Cortese, saldamente in testa alla classifica iridata, ma al secondo posto si è piazzato a meno di mezzo secondo Luis Salom, un ragazzino che è esploso a metà stagione e che ancora tanto può dire da qui a Valencia. Niccolò Antonelli, sempre penalizzato dalla zavorra, ha chiuso ottavo al traguardo, e Tonucci è rimasto attardato in diciassettesima posizione.

How great to see Valentino up front again at the Misano Adriatico track in San Marino! On the track now named after his friend SuperSic, Rossi had the best race of his two years with Ducati. We are also hoping for many other great finishes before the end of the season and all his fans and Ducati lovers finally have something to celebrate. A great race. He got a great start from the second row and was second immediately behind Lorenzo but ahead of Bradl and all the others. Vale kept up the pressure and rode his Desmosedici with surgical precision inspired by the new frame. The timing was right and the friendly track and tests carried out the week before certainly helped. A few laps into the race, Barbera crashed into Pedrosa taking him out and the nine-times World Champion took full advantage of this. Perhaps the advantage of better fine-tuning than the others (who raced three out of four rounds in the wet) was significant and the current Ducati is still not the real one, but, in the meantime, let's celebrate Rossi's magnificent second place that confirms two things: Ducati are now on the right lines and Valentino is the Rossi of the good old days. Some say “what a shame to give up now”, but Vale replies “I made the right choice for me and if Ducati go well next year, I'll be more than happy”.

He dedicated the race to Marco Simoncelli who will always be remembered in Misano with great warmth and affection. Rossi's race deserved a win. Lorenzo wasn't even that far ahead, just over four seconds separated them at the flag while those behind the Ducati lost rather than gained ground. Bautista just beat Dovizioso and Spies crossed the line ahead of Bradl whose only fault lies in his inability to manage his tyres when they start to lose performance. The German rookie however also had a good race at Misano. He was fast, consistent and ambitious. Hayden finished seventh despite all the aches and pains from his fall at Indy, Pirro was tenth, Petrucci fourteenth and Pasini unfortunately was a faller once more.

In Moto2, Iannone looked certain to win with a decisive ride after his pole position on Saturday. He led the race for much of the time but dropped off the pace due to a faulty rear tyre that was slipping on the rim. Vibration from the rear forced him to give way to Marquez then to the excellent Pol Espargaro who kept trying for the win right up to the last second. The Moto2 race was a fantastic battle between the two Spaniards with three passes in the last lap. Perhaps even more spectacular was Romano Fenati's race in Moto3. He was up at the front for most of the race in which Antonelli also did well. Towards the end, the rider from Ascoli was reeled in and passed to lie in fifth place at the start of the last lap. Folger hindered Vinalles at the last bend and Romano reacted immediately to take a well-deserved third place on the podium. The race winner was again Cortese who has a solid lead in the standings but less than half a second behind him was Luis Salom, a young man who exploded on to the scene in mid-season and who will no doubt have a lot more to say between here and the last race of the season at Valencia. Niccolò Antonelli was still penalised by the ballast and came home in eighth place while Tonucci finished in a disappointing seventeenth position.

SHOYA TOMIZAWA, ADDIO.

Terribile giornata, e tristissima coincidenza: il cinque settembre a Misano cadde Wayne Rainey e restò immobile, era il 1993, questa volta è toccato a Shoya Tomizawa che ancora non aveva vent’anni e non è sopravvissuto. Troppo veloce la curva, troppo gravi le sue ferite. Il dodicesimo giro della Moto2 resterà fissato nella nostra memoria, De Angelis e Redding così vicini, una moto di traverso e la carambola, il sorriso del pilota giapponese spento per sempre. Ci eravamo illusi di aver sconfitto la morte, perché la ricerca della sicurezza è avanzata veloce e già sette anni erano passati dall’ultimo nostro lutto, dal giorno di Kato a Suzuka, ma non è così: il motociclismo è uno sport pericoloso e non dobbiamo mai dimenticarlo.
Sì, continuo a pensare che la bandiera rossa andava agitata immediatamente. Perchè oggi forse ci sentiremmo meglio, non avremmo negli occhi quella barella trasferita troppo in fretta e quel portantino che inciampa e il pilota che scivola verso la ghiaia: quel film sarebbe girato al rallentatore, e noi faremmo meno fatica a metabolizzare il pensiero di questa morte. Ma per Tomizawa nulla sarebbe cambiato, questo è certo.
E così la domenica che doveva essere una festa si è trasformata in un funerale come qualche volta purtroppo capita. E’ la vita, è la morte, le due cose stanno insieme. La vittoria di Pedrosa, che è già la quarta del 2010, Lorenzo e Rossi sul podio, la premiazione sotto tono, i fischi dei tifosi. Nulla ha avuto più importanza. Ma non serve fare polemiche, non serve prendersela con la Dorna, con i medici, con il tifo da stadio. Non esiste la morte perfetta. Dorna ha agito secondo coscienza, il medico ha fatto il massimo, gli spettatori non sapevano nulla. Il silenzio è il migliore addio che possiamo regalare a Shoya.

Misano arrives at last. And Valentino can actually try to win after the stop and the difficult return. But Lorenzo is really motivated, as well as Pedrosa and Spies, hungry after the wonderful success in Indianapolis. And this time even the Ducati grandstand will support the Doctor.

Arriva Misano, finalmente. E Valentino può provare concretamente a vincere dopo lo stop e il difficile rientro. Lorenzo però è in palla, così come Pedrosa e come Spies, affamati dopo le meravigliose imprese di Indianapolis. E questa volta anche la tribuna Ducati sarà per il Dottore.
