DREAM TIME

After the end of the World Championship in Garmisch, the women's Ski World Cup started up again in Are, Sweden, where the challenge to win the overall Cup is serious business: Maria Riesch was back in top form during this exhilarating weekend.
On Friday 25, she won the Super-combined, confirming her as leader of this discipline (what a shame about her fever during the World Championship); on Saturday 26, Maria was again among the winners in the downhill, this time coming in third, a few hundredths of second from the winner Lindsey Vonn. With just a few races to go till the end of the season, the challenge for the Overall World Cup is becoming increasingly interesting: the challenge between the two champions was repeated at each race of the Swedish leg, and in fact the Super-G ended with another victory for Maria Riesch. A fantastic race, with a result that was uncertain until the very end, this time with Lindsey Vonn losing by just one hundredth of a second. A good seventh place for Johanna Schnarf.
At the same time as the weekend in Are, the men's white circus was taking place in Bansko, Bulgaria, where the Super-combined and Slalom were held. Aksel Lund Svindal was absent, having chosen to rest after the efforts of the World Championship. For the Dainese team, Manfred Moelgg came in 9th in the first race; a good result for a discipline that is not his favourite, while in the Slalom he came in 13th. Due to serious error he was unable to give a repeat performance of his fantastic result of the previous week at Garmisch, where he won the bronze medal. Cristian Deville, always among the best this season, came in ninth.
