Created in collaboration with FIS, D-air® Ski 2 Evo protects 92% of the top 50 Downhill and Super-G athletes,
accompanying them on the most challenging slopes and in the most thrilling races in the world. It’s a revolutionary
system, which has redefined the concept of protection in high-performance skiing.
Intelligent and advanced, D-air® Ski 2 Evo activates independently due to a sophisticated algorithm and an engineered
airbag that remains light and imperceptible until it’s really needed.
The new version introduces an activation and adjustment system on the belt with FidLock magnetic buckle and a
latest-generation 3D electronic control unit, as well as full management through the dedicated D-air® app. The
electronics’ cover plate has also been redesigned to be more compact and discreet.
Innovations that guarantee the maximum level of protection and freedom of movement, allowing athletes to push their
limits, even in the most extreme racing conditions.
DESIGNED FOR RACING
DETECTION AND ACTIVATION:
Due to an intelligent algorithm, D-air® Ski 2 Evo analyzes motion dynamics and recognizes a fall in real time. The
system decides independently if and when to activate, based on the type of dangerous situation.
HIGHSIDE:
The skier is projected into the air – the D-air® system intervenes before impact, inflating itself in a preventive
manner.
LOWSIDE with rolling:
The skier slips, triggering a potentially dangerous roll – the system detects these dynamics and activates the
protection.
THE AIRBAG THAT MAKES D-AIR® SKI 2 EVO UNIQUE
Controlling the air to create a protective shield – this is what makes D-air® Ski 2 Evo unique. In the event of a fall,
the airbag effectively and evenly envelops the skier's body.
In other systems, the pressure generated by inflation may distort the structure, leaving some areas less protected.
Dainese's patented microfilament technology, on the other hand, ensures that air is evenly distributed over the entire
surface of the airbag, maintaining the ideal shape for impact absorption.
THE HEART
The heart of the Dainese D-air® system is the Shield, a revolutionary airbag created using a patented microfilament technology. Such innovation allows to control precisely the airflow inside it, guaranteeing unprecedented protection.
The microfilaments join the airbag’s inner sides and, in the event of activation, keep them at a constant distance of 5 cm over the whole coverage area.
This stops air from moving, ensuring uniform protection at every point.
This gives the airbag an engineered 3D shape, whereby the Shield expands into an enveloping structure, offering optimal coverage that absorbs up to seven times more energy than traditional hardshell protective gear.
The result is lightweight, effective and uniform protection – the power of air at the service of protection.
THE BRAIN
At the center of the D-air® system we find its electronic control unit, a veritable intelligent brain powered by cutting-edge software and a sophisticated algorithm, developed over more than 20 years of experience in the most extreme contexts – it recognizes the dynamics of a fall and activates the Shield, the airbag with patented microfilament technology that protects athletes.
Ultra-fast analysis
The system detects and analyzes incoming data from sensors 1,000 times per second.
Integrated technologies
Accelerometers, gyroscopes and GPS work together in synergy to monitor every movement and autonomously identify dangerous situations.
Intelligent activation
When needed, the algorithm immediately activates the Shield, guaranteeing optimal and uniform protection over the entire chest area.
THE EVOLUTION OF INTELLIGENT PROTECTION
D-air® Ski Shield 3X is the D-air® airbag’s latest evolution, integrated into the Dainese airbag system for alpine
skiing. The system is certified to support up to three airbag activations without needing to replace it, ensuring
continuity and reliability when racing. Control unit and airbag work in synergy with the Wave Level 2 back protector,
for a higher level of safety.
Due to the Dainese D-air® FRS (Fast Replacement System) technology, the gas generator can be replaced independently by
the skier for up to three airbag activations without the need for official assistance. This allows for a quick and
uninterrupted return to the slope.

In 2012, the first D-air® Ski prototype was launched. The beginning of a new era for ski protection.

THE FIRST COMPETITION
In 2015, D-air® Ski made its debut in the World Cup and immediately became a benchmark, the airbag exclusively used by White Circus athletes.

THE FIRST ACHIEVEMENT
In 2017, after supporting Dainese in the development and fine-tuning of the system, Matthias Mayer won the Super-G in Kitzbühel, Austria, the temple of skiing.

2018
OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALS
At the XXIII Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea, skiers Sofia Goggia and Matthias Mayer won the gold medal in the Downhill and the Super-G respectively wearing Dainese D-air® Ski.

PERFORMANCE STARTS FROM PROTECTION
As of the 2024/2025 season, using an airbag protection system is mandatory for all athletes, women and men, in the Super-G and Downhill disciplines.

THE EVOLUTION OF SAFETY
The obligation also extends to the European Cup, further raising the safety standard in high-level competitions. In the North American Cup and in events such as the Junior World Championships, regulations don’t yet mandate airbag use, though it’s strongly recommended by FIS and adopted by an increasing number of athletes, due to its proven effectiveness.
